The role of public policy in inclusive agrifood markets
Market restructuring and modernization in emerging economies presents major challenges for public policy. There is a vitally important role for the public sector to enable successful alliances between smallholders, SMEs and larger business, especially if initiatives are to be scaled up. Can public policy make any difference, to ‘make markets work for the poor'? This Issues Paper looks the evidence of how public policy and donor policy can work for successful inclusion of the poor in dynamic markets, even within an overall framework of liberalized markets.
