Foundation for International Environmental Law and Development
FIELD is a group of public international lawyers committed to helping vulnerable countries, communities and campaigners negotiate for fairer international environmental laws.
FIELD’s main goal is to achieve a fair, effective and accessible system of international law that protects the global environment and promotes sustainable development.
With two decades of experience FIELD has obtained a worldwide reputation for its expertise in finding solution to pressing environmental challenges. For example, FIELD has advised the Alliance for Small Island States (AOSIS) in international climate change negotiations for many years.
Our work is part campaigning, part research, and part the work of a conventional law firm. We work with local partners, national and international NGOs and institutions.
FIELD also runs an International Internship Programme, providing law students from all over the world with practical insight into environmental law.
In 2005 FIELD became a working subsidiary of IIED. While continuing to operate as FIELD, the organisation is building close links with a range of research activities at IIED, including climate change, trade and investment and biodiversity.
The partnership with IIED will promote further synergies and cross-fertilisation of work, and both strengthen and add to the existing portfolios of each organisation.
