How to use this site

This brief guide will help you make the most of our website.

Headlines: our latest media releases
All important news releases can be found beneath the main feature on the homepage. A full list of previous releases is available, along with a news feed if you wish to subscribe.

Features: the things we'd like to draw your attention to
Our homepage contains a number of featured items reflecting our current work and important projects. The main feature on the top right typically contains details of international events related to environment and development. These change regularly, so please come back to check up on the latest.

Learn about our research
Our research is divided into five main areas: Climate Change, Governance, Human Settlements, Natural Resources and Sustainable Markets.

Explore a particular interest
You'll find that each of the five main areas has been split into a number of key issues. Follow the key issue links in the menu options or the full list, called Research in Detail, at the bottom of the homepage.

Discover our publications
Our publications database contains an ever-growing list of titles, most available as free downloads. Many of our publications are available in print and can be purchased. Please browse the database or go directly to our online book shop at Earthprint.

Find what's most useful for your interest group
For your convenience we have included pages aimed at promoting areas of our work that we think may be particularly useful for students, journalists and policy makers. Over time we plan to expand these areas and include other interest groups, so we welcome your feedback.

Search the site
Use the search box at the top right. The advanced search will allow you to refine your search by words or phrases, or search by specific area or key issue.

All of our pages are tagged with relevant key words. You can find listings of related content on the left of any research page. The homepage has a list of these key words in a tag cloud, where they appear in different sizes. The largest words indicate topics we talk about the most.

Please note that our publications are not included in these searches so please use the separate publications search.

How the site was created
The site is powered by an open-source software package called Drupal, one of a wide range of content management systems used to enable individuals or communities of users to publish and manage content on a website.
